Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role – Amy Adams in Hillbilly Elegy.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role – Glenn Close in Hillbilly Elegy.

Being from this part of the USA, I found this movie hard to watch at times. My grandmother wore the same eyeglass frames as Glenn Close.

My Review

I really wanted to like this movie. Adapted from the New York Times Best Seller I was disappointing. I was expecting more. I am from this area of the USA. I know these types of people. Glenn Close (one of my favorite actresses in the world) has much more screen time and should have been nominated for Lead Actor. She is almost unrecognizable in all the makeup and costume. I love Amy Adams in other movies (eg: The Fighter and Enchanted). I was disappointed with her performance in this. Not much there to do, but that is also a reflection of the script. With all the star power in front of (and behind the screen), I found this movie lacking. I did like the ending credits where they show photos of the real people this story is based on.

Thank You

Thank you to Mr Imagine Entertainment and Mr Netflix for giving me access to watch this via Digital Streaming so I could make an intelligent and informed opinion when casting my vote for the 27th Annual SAG Awards. However, a big, sprawling movie like this really should be seen on the Big Screen in a community setting. I wish you had a Screening for me or (at the very least) offered Movie Cash. Perhaps this is due to COVID-19?
