Title: Colabo Theatre
Role: Co-Founder

I was a Co-Founder of Colabo Theatre in Las Vegas, NV. This was one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done in my life – artistically, emotionally, financially…

What an amazing output of high quality work (with minimal budget)!

Shows I helped Produce and/or Direct thru Colabo Theatre

Background

We started out doing Hedwig and the Angry Inch  (I played Johan) and An Evening with Billie Holiday. I was infatuated with my Co-Founder’s voice – one of the best I’ve ever worked with.

We decided to add a children’s theatre/workshop ending with live performances. We tried to make the training as affordable as possible. We double or triple cast each role so every child could perform on stage. It was a grueling schedule, but incredibly rewarding to see the kids learn, grow and flourish.

I performed in Hedwig and the Angry Inch (Johan), Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Mr Bucket) and A Christmas Carol 2009 (Scrooge).

Behind the Scenes

I helped produce, direct, and choreograph many of the shows. I was also responsible for the art direction, graphics, video and projections, forms, and organization. I love Adobe Illustrator  (in a very unhealthy way!) due to its infinite scaling ability. Art can be a billboard or a web banner and will still look sharp and perfect.

One of my favorite jobs was creating the costumes for Charlie Brown. Every child was cast as a character (15+) from the comic strip, so I created an iron on transfer for each. I found a dingbat font with most of them. As an example, here is the t-shirt for the child playing Woodstock.

Another favorite tool is Apple Keynote to create and control the onstage video projections. As a longtime Apple user, this is a no-brainer. While pursuing my acting career in LA, I got the chance to go back to school and got a degree in MultiMedia from West LA College. You can some of the onstage video projections on my company website, CHRMEDIA.

Thank Yous

There are many other Chris Rogers on IMDB, but I own the SAG-AFTRA name Chris Rogers. I tried to reserve the website name ChrisRogers dot com, but can’t because a writer in Texas owns that url.
